Fruit Trees – Fresh Fruits and a Source of Income

Walking along the lines of cherry trees and picking off cherries is something that always attracts me and this was also one of my favorite tasks during my childhood. But later on when my parents moved to the city area I was unable to enjoy this anymore. But now my decision of living off the land has provided me the same opportunity again and I am taking full advantage of it.

I have planted lots of fruit trees along the boundaries of my fairly large garden. I use to have a fence around there but now the area is covered by the trees. Although I love my whole garden but I spend most of my time around cherry trees.

How to Generate Green Energy on Your Own?

My prime motivation for living off the land was my extreme desire for green living; pollution free environment, healthy and chemical free eatables, and a complete natural and independent lifestyle.

After first few months, I realized that I am missing something to accomplish a complete self-sufficient and independent living. I thought growing your own food was not the only thing to achieve an independent living in true sense. So I decided to take an extra step and generate my own electricity to power my home and to fulfill other energy needs.

But here again I was just bound to generate green energy from eco-friendly methods. So the options were quite narrow. Out of few options available, I preferred the solar energy as it was most suited to me due to my environment and geographical location. Although I used solar panels to generate electricity but during the process I learnt a lot about all the green energy generation methods and I am going to discuss all those in brief here:-

How to Preserve Tomatoes While Keeping Taste and Nutrients

Everything that grows from land does have some particular season and your garden can’t provide a constant supply of any particular vegetable for the whole year. Tomatoes are no exception and with the end of the season, they will be no longer available in your garden. So before the end of the production you need to have enough storage that you can use until next season or at least for next few months.

To keep tomatoes in an edible form for longer period of time you need to preserve them by using any of the canning techniques. Canning not only keeps them edible but it also gives you fresh taste and maximum nutrients.

Living Off the Land – a Lifestyle With Challenges and Full of Fun

The concept of living off the land is getting popularity and much more people are now interested in it. I also have decided few years ago to live off my own land and I am very glad to share my experiences with you. Although the concept is pretty attractive and appealing yet it is not as easy as some of you might be thinking. It is full of challenges and you can only succeed if you work hard. But one thing is sure, there is no boring stuff and you will surely have lots of fun.

Living off the land can never be regarded as a new concept; in fact, it is one of the oldest living styles. Centuries ago when there was no concept of markets and offices, our ancestors were totally depending upon land. They used to cultivate different vegetables, fruits and other crops and their survival was totally dependent on their lands and then they have to eat these things until the next season. They used to hunt and raise different animals to get meat and milk from them. Thus their lifestyle was totally independent and self-sufficient. Living off the land is also the similar concept but it can be regarded as the modern form of that lifestyle.

Living Off the Land – Grow Chemical Free Vegetables for Your Family

I am just sick of increased use of pesticides and chemicals in agriculture. All the vegetable we get in markets these days are full of chemicals and are polluted with pesticides. As most of these vegetables are grown with commercial frame of mind so they just want to have maximum production and they really don’t care about your health. Actually they are feeding us poisons and we are taking it quite happily.

When I left my job and started living off my own land, I decided to grow vegetables in my garden so that I can provide healthy and hygienic food to my family. Today I am going to share a few tips with you. These are somewhat general tips but can play very important role in your success.

Pellet Mills – a Tool That You Must Need to Have

Having a pellet mill can be helpful in multiple ways. You can use it to make your own wooden fuel as well as healthy pellet feed for your pets.

Using Wooden Pellets as Fuel:
I was using wood logs in start to heat my room in cool winter nights. Although I used them for quite a long time but I was never satisfied with the results because wooden logs are not easy to use and produce lots of exhaust gases which cause damage to our environment. So I started to think about alternatives and suddenly wooden pellets flashed into my mind.

I decided to use wooden pellets because they have many advantages over bulky wooden logs. First thing is that pellets produce much more heat and have a high efficiency rate. Secondly, they are environmental friendly and have very low emissions. Pellets are easy and even fun to use, and I also love the flames produced which I had never seen from wood logs. As pellets have less moisture content so they can be burnt easily and produce more heat.

Raise Animals and Enjoy Lots of Benefits

I am a great fan of animals, and I love to play and spend time with them. I think I am very lucky to have lots of friends not only in humans but also in animals. Animal keeping has become my hobby now and I feel great satisfaction from them. It was since my childhood that I feel great affection for animals. My dream comes true when I moved to the countryside and started living off the land. With the change of lifestyle, I got the opportunity to raise animals as now I have the space and resources to fulfill all their needs.

Raising animals have plenty of benefits and most significant is that they can cover up a large portion of your daily food requirements. I have few cows, goats, sheep and hens in my possession and I get daily eggs, pure milk and meat from them. All these things are essential part of our daily diet and I am no longer purchasing them from market.

Raising Chicken: Get Meat, Eggs and Profit

If you are planning to raise some pets and searching what could be the best option to get maximum benefits then my top recommendation would be to raise chicken. I am recommending chickens because of many reasons and this post is going to explain all those reasons.

If you do not have any experience of pet-keeping then start with chickens because they are much easier to keep and manage as compared to other pets. Other reason is that raising chicken can provide a large portion of your family’s nutritious needs or at least more than any other pet. You will get daily eggs and fresh meat at very low cost. Another benefit which I would love to mention is the world’s number one fertilizer which you can get from chicken waste. Yes, that’s true. Chicken wastes contain all those important nutrients that are found in any good fertilizer. Thus chickens are not only good for your family’s health but also for your land.

You Absolutely Should Not Get Backyard Chickens

For us non-commercial chicken-keepers, a good rule of thumb is that hens will lay pretty consistently (with periods off for molting, reduced day length and broodiness) from about 6 months old until about 3 years old. Although you will hear Meanwhile, if you live in a city or suburb, you have an even bigger problem: your now non-laying hens are taking up your legal urban chicken quota which could be filled with younger, laying hens, and you are stuck. You can't just
